If there is one thing Papermoon Diner knows how to do is to astonish people. David Briskie is the artist who is the brain child of Papermoon’s decor and this year he went all out on their garden. It is purely a “wow” experience for your eyes. If you are in the Baltimore area, make sure to visit their garden and stop in for a yummy shake. Visit their website at www.papermoondiner24.com for more info and direction.

Copper Kitchen at Silo Point (Photography)

Copper Kitchen at Silo Point

There is nothing like starting one’s day to a good wholesome brunch. Copper Kitchen prepared a hearty meal to the residents of Silo Point as a sign of appreciation. They prepared Mini Homemade Sticky Buns, Banana Rum Maple Syrup, Challah Bread French Toast to name a few. Another amazing job by the Chef Kevin Miller and Sous Chef Nicole Feldhaus.

PapermoonDiner24.com (Website + Photography)

Lets go to PapermoonDiner24.com

About Papermoon Diner

Papermoon Diner is an iconic Baltimore diner, not only for its food but also the quirky and eccentric design they’ve implemented all through the restaurant. It’s a must-visit diner if you’re hungry and in the Baltimore area.

Goal

Papermoon Diner had been using a Flash-based website for many years, which significantly reduced their findability—both for search engines and for users trying to search within the site. Addressing this issue was a top priority, along with reducing the loading time. They couldn’t update their menu without letting their Flash developer know about each change, so another request was to create a menu that was easy to update. Lastly, they wanted a site that was mobile friendly for those on the go, so they could provide easy and fast access to their hours, directions, and menu—all within a few clicks.

Result

One particularly unique aspect of Papermoon is its decor. Walking into the ‘Moon is like going to Disney Land, there are so many things to look at. With that in mind, we went with a full photo website to exhibit the space’s colorful energy, artistic environment, and succulent food. We coded the site using responsive design to accommodate both desktop and mobile users.

I often find myself searching for restaurant directions on my mobile device. Usually, after finding the site, I have to retype the address on a mapping site for directions. To make it easier for visitors to the ‘Moon site, we made the address a direct link to Google Maps. One click will forward the user to a map on their mobile device or on a desktop.

Papermoon updates their menu by printing from a PDF. To bypass redundancy of labor (creating a PDF for their menu and separately updating the data for the site), the menu on the website is now a link to the same PDF. Once the PDF is updated, Papermoon staff can simply upload the PDF to the server and it is done.

Visit www.papermoondiner24.com to see their site. Here is the before and after of the website.

Thank You All

There is no better feeling than seeing others use something you’ve created. I bet when the late Steve Jobs walked down the street and saw all those white earphones, that probably put a big smile on his face. For me, when I see others use my photography as their profile picture in Facebook, that is the equivalent of saying “yeah dawg, right on. /fistbump.”

This is my fist bump post to all those who have used my photography on their profiles. Thank you, you all put a big Willy-Wonka smile on my face.

After working with Chef Kevin Miller on the Papermoon Diner photography, he asked me if I would be willing to photograph his specialty catering business based in Baltimore’s Federal Hill neighborhood. Without hesitation, I jumped on board. I enjoy shooting his fast-paced cooking, as well as his collaboration with sous chef Nicole Feldhaus—they create amazing dishes, like harmonizing musicians.

Plus, one of the great things about food photography is that you get to try each dish once it’s captured.

Papermoon Diner Yummies (Photography)

Papermoon Dinner Photography

One of my favorite things in life is enjoying good food—the flavors, the aromas, and the artisan skills involved in the creation. When I do food photography, I tend to shoot more with my stomach then my head.

Recently, I was hired by the Papermoon Diner to photograph key menu items in preparation for the launch of their new website. The session was as fast paced as the diner—boom, boom, boom!—my kind of work! After it was all over, we were able to share the food with the delivery guys, some of my co-workers, staff, and neighbors in my building. It was a banquet for all.

Papermoon Diner is an iconic Baltimore diner, not only for its food but also the quirky and eccentric design they’ve implemented all through the restaurant. It’s a must-visit diner if you’re hungry and in the Baltimore area.

5th Annual Fest-of-All (Photography)

See the full gallery on Flickr

This year, I had the privilege to photograph the 5th Annual Fest-of-All sponsored by Federal Hill Main Street. Fest-of-All is one big party hosted by various vendors from Baltimore’s Federal Hill neighborhood. The night was filled with food, drinks (open bar!), a fashion show, live music, silent auctions, and more. If you’ve never been and you love city life, put it on your definite to-do list. Last year. I had great time photographing the event as a personal photographer for a client, and the opportunity to work as the event’s official photographer was really exciting.

Kudos to Federal Hill Main Street for putting together an awesome event!

Nom nom nom nom

Where to begin with this? Well, I believe in recycling as much as I can. When my co-worker told me she was collecting toilet paper rolls for her friend’s lab rats, I thought, I can help with that! As a joke, I “sponsored” my donated rolls by writing my domain name on them (think NASCAR advertising). And a few months later, here are the rats getting their gnaw on!

DBFA End-of-Year Gathering (Photography)

IMG_4704

DBFA (Downtown Baltimore Family Alliance) asked me to photograph their end-of-year party, as well as take some family portraits of its members. Not only did I have a good time photographing the event, but I was proud to be part of it. I believe in DBFA’s cause: keeping families in the city by cultivating the city and actively improving urban life. Their efforts impact the community for both present and future generations of families and businesses. I love city life, love walking everywhere, love having easy access to everything from museums to boutique shops to countless dining-out options (which are way better than in the suburbs). So this project was especially gratifying.
